A little bit about Suffolk RED. Formed in late 2015, Suffolk RED is organised by a steering group and supported by the collaboration of amateur radio and electronics enthusiasts in the Suffolk area of the UK. Read about The Suffolk RED Steering Group here.
The name RED stands for Radio and Electronics Development, and the events are aimed at anyone with an interest in any aspect of electronics and radio engineering and operation. More about the history of Suffolk RED and its aims for the future here.
Who can attend?
All are welcome at a Suffolk RED event, whether you are just starting out in the hobby, taking your foundation licence or long established and looking for something new to try. Experience not required just a passion to learn!Suffolk RED is every other month commencing January of each year. Suffolk RED events are a mixture of: live amateur radio demos, amateur radio build workshops, amateur radio field days and amateur radio special event stations. Suffolk RED is for Radio & Radio Electronics Development hobbyists. Serving amateur radio in Suffolk, amateur radio Essex, amateur radio Cambridge and amateur radio across East Anglia (RSGB Region 12).
When are the Suffolk RED events?
Every two months, on the last Wednesday, commencing January of each year. Suffolk RED 'winters' September, November, January & March RED events are held at Hallowtree Scout Campsite - Ipswich and then Suffolk RED 'Summers' May, July and August RED events at the former Wireless Telegraphy site of RAF Martlesham - Foxhall road Kesgrave. All ages welcome both venues have ample parking, refeshments and disabled facilities.
Is there an entry fee?
There is no entry charge, and refreshments plus a ‘chat’ area are always available. To cover the costs of hall rental, however, we do appreciate you making a donation for your tea and biscuits!
Who can 'Demo'?
Anyone! The success of Suffolk RED is due to your attendance, and the kind offers of those who provide the ‘demos’ – as you will see Suffolk RED is an exhibition style event, with a number of activities taking place around the room, and you are free to dip in to each one for as long and as deep as you like. Some of them will be practical, others may be more Q & A with an expert – but they will all be different!

Formality is kept to a minimum – all of Suffolk RED steering group are volunteers and no club has a majority control in Suffolk RED.
We do have a ‘committee’ structured steering group, with a chairman and steering members.
