A little bit about Suffolk RED. Formed in late 2015, Suffolk RED is organised by a collaboration of amateur radio and electronics enthusiasts in the Suffolk area of the UK.
The name RED stands for Radio and Electronics Development, and the events are aimed at anyone with an interest in any aspect of electronics and radio engineering and operation.
Formality is kept to a minimum – all organisers are volunteers and no club has a majority control in Suffolk RED. We do have a ‘committee’ structure, with a chairman and steering group.
When are the Suffolk RED events?
Every two months, on the last Wednesday, people gather at the regular place of Hallowtree Scout Campsite - Ipswich. All ages welcome and our current venue has ample parking and disabled facilities.
Who can attend?
All are welcome at a Suffolk RED event, whether you are just starting out in the hobby, taking your foundation licence or long established and looking for something new to try. Experience not required just a passion to learn!
Is there an entry fee?
There is no entry charge, and refreshments plus a ‘chat’ area are always available. To cover the costs of hall rental, however, we do appreciate you making a donation for your tea and biscuits!
Who can 'Demo'?
Anyone! The success of Suffolk RED is due to your attendance, and the kind offers of those who provide the ‘demos’ – as you will see Suffolk RED is an exhibition style event, with a number of activities taking place around the room, and you are free to dip in to each one for as long and as deep as you like. Some of them will be practical, others may be more Q & A with an expert – but they will all be different!
We have a mailing list which you can sign up to at Suffolk RED, an active Facebook page: SuffolkRED, a growing Pinterest board (yes there is a world of Radio & Electronics on Pinterest!) https://uk.pinterest.com/suffolkred and coming soon an Instagram account.
If you require any further information or have ideas for future events, contact page and let us know!
